Part of the Kimono Umbrella collection, this Japanese umbrella design is Yuho (majestic mountains). Crafted & upcycled from a traditional, antique Kimono that has been passed down through generations.
Product History
Coated in a Vintage Kimono fabric, glass fibre body, and wooden handle. Making full use of the mountains on the spine, the work on this parasol is bold and resembles a Japanese painting, with the blue grating of the ground colour spreading grandly. In Japanese culture, mountains are the dwelling places of spirits called kami, which respond to human rituals. The value of invisibility is a Japanese aesthetic and the dignity of the Kimono. The JUBAN is another type of Kimono made for males in the 1960s. JUBAN is not seen frequently, but sophisticated people like to wear this kind of designed JUBAN. Japan’s Kimono culture embodies this kind of playful spirit.
The canopy is made from 100% silk of a Kimono, meaning it’s not suitable for rain as it would damage the silk – however, as the theme of this umbrella, it is perfect for the sun, weighing approximately 310 grams. The origin of the Kimono can be traced as far back as the Heian Period, over 1200 years ago when straight cuts of fabric were sewn together to create a garment that fit every body shape.
